I worked in Germany for 12 months with an injection moulding machinery manufacturer in 1968. This got me involved in the UK plastics industry for a few years and then I started my own company manufacturing colour concentrates for plastics. I built it up to a turnover of over £5m and then successfully sold the company after twelve years.

The experiences and disciplines of those years have stood me in great stead: risk and reward, the value of hard work and networking, acquisitions and disposals, delegating, man management, and really everything that goes with building up and running a business with 70 employees and a turnover of several million.

Willowside Ltd - my consultancy - was formed to put these skills to good use. I have worked with a whole variety of small companies throughout England, from materials technology and CD/DVD manufacturers to fashion designers and landscape contractors. My experience can provide the perfect link for both developing and mature businesses: German companies wishing to trade in England or the US, and vice versa.
